Prof. Michele Geraci, Former Undersecretary of State, Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Italy, and currently responsible for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of The Independence Party of Italy, discussed with Hussein Askary the reasons and implications of Italy’s government decision last year to abandon its partnership with China to jointly build the Belt and Road (BRI).
Professor Geraci, who is known as one of the main architects of the BRI MoU signed by China and Italy in 2019, was very blunt as to the reasons for the Georgia Meloni government’s decision arguing that they are based on fake news and outright lies. Besides, external pressure was a key factor in this decision.
The Independence Party of Italy recently organized a special conference in Rome on “Italy, BRI and BRICS: The Italian Economy in the New Multipolar World”. The recording of the conference can be watched here!
