In this new episode of the Belt and Road Institute in Sweden (BRIX) 2021 podcast series, Hussein Askary interviewed Erik Solheim, former Norwegian Environment Minister and Minister of International development to discuss the environmental impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and China’s development policies and model. Mr. Solheim is currently President of The Belt and Road Green Development Institute in Beijing.
Mr. Solheim provides a relatively shocking (for a European audience) personal account of his observations and experience with China’s success in matching development with environmental conservation, not doing the one first, and “clean up later”. He explains why this is a model of development for the 21st century. He also expands the perspective into the whole Belt and Road area.
